Description

Well, Well, what do we have here? Thru documentation from the collector/owner and research on my behalf we have quite an interesting and rare piece! This is a very eye catching Vincent B/C/D Shadow that was built from parts over 15 years back in the 70's. Most of the story can be told from the documents posted above!

This particular Shadow engine was shipped from Sai-Gon, Vietnam on June 26th 1969 while in the midst of War by Bruce Clark of Fort Lauderdale Florida! Included are two Sai-Gon newspaper pages of the same time, I can't read Vietnamese but assume somewhere on them is the ad for this "Shadow" engine picked up by a US Soldier. Later sold to a Rudy Nygrin whom completed the motorcycle over 15 years. In the Overseas Commentary document, you can see this engine caused quite a stir!!

Many items on the bike that are chromed and/or polished should not be but add to the eye-catching appeal of this machine! So, Yep it's not 100% original but it is a special piece with very interesting documented history!

According to a well known collector, "Today's Market is responding well to catalogue straight and shiny bikes"! Even better yet this is one that you can show and/or ride! Runs and Rides Great with no known issues! It's value is based on prices paid by the current owner in 2000 and professional opinions of known collectors. Bid with confidence! ! EASY FINANCING GOOD LUCK!!!!

Known Items: A very nice older restoration that has been stored indoors and protected. Runs and Rides Great with no known issues! Titled as 1949 Vincent Shadow. The Shadow engine is of Vietnamese Heritage. The entire bike was built from parts over a 15 year period. Many items are not factory correct, hence the B/C/D. Not Perfect and Not New (none are) but I highly doubt you will find one with more interesting tales to tell! Let the detailed pictures tell the rest of the tale. AS-IS!

 "LATE BREAKING NEWS"

May 5th,2002 4:23 AM:

We Below E-mail from the UK and thought we should share it potential buyers!

I'm ***** ******, the Machine Researcher for the Vincent HRD Owners Club. It's great that this engine has turned up again after all these years, it's one that's a bit special. I have the works' records that give all sorts of info on the bikes & where they went in the world. F10AB/1B/9203 was sold as an ENGINE ONLY. It left the Vincent factory in 1952 & was sent to Garreau who was the French agent in Paris, this agrees with the story of it being found in a box unused in Vietnam. It was fitted with Lightning cams & big carbs, so was obviously bought for a purpose it was never used for. Looking at the photos on your website I can see it is fitted with a 'B' rear frame. If you let me have the frame #s from the steering head as well as the rear frame member I can tell you the background of those parts as well. This info will be of great interest to any potential buyer. Stamped between the cylinders is what is known as the crankcase mating number, we would appreciate this to put on our records. Best of luck with the auction, it should bring a good price with such an interesting history.

In Closing, Based on above e-mail & the Overseas Commentary print from many years ago, I would say that we are only now solving one of the longest running Vincent mysteries. I will up-date new info as I receive it in order to retain it's interesting history!

Thank You & Good Luck, Jim AKA Spudman
